Guitar Clinic!!!

The Utica Music Alliance and Off-Center Records will present a free, four part guitar clinic by one of the area’s premier guitarists, Fred Gerow.

Beginning 2PM Saturday February 4th, and continuing each consecutive Saturday throughout the month, at Off-Center Records 116 Bleecker St. Downtown Utica, in the Loft, Fred Gerow will give a overview of various guitar styles and techniques. These will include bends, sweeps, octaves, arpeggios, tapping, etc.

Fred Gerow has a long musical history in the Mohawk Valley. He has been a member of several popular bands in the 80s, 90s & today, i.e. Flight, Mystery, & Area 51. Currently, he is lead guitarist with Next Time Around. He has been a guitar instructor off & on for many years. In 1994, his reputation was such, that he was called upon to audition for the lead guitarist role for Ozzy Osbourne’s band. His guitar style is a amalgam of his influences. These include Yngwie Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck & Stanley Jordan.

The guitar clinic is free to the public and all interested guitarists are requested to call 315-738-7651 for space availability. Guitarists are asked to bring their guitar and a small practice amp.

The schedule of the guitar clinic will be:
    Week 1 - Recognizing intervals, bends, sweeps, hammer-ons & pull-offs
Week 2 - Octaves, opens, harmonics, muting,& speed picking
Week 3 - Intermediate tapping, arpeggios, & creating hybrid notes
Week 4 - Advanced tapping, positioning (major & minor), & tap chord phrasing

Note: This is not to be a replacement for guitar instruction, but rather an introduction to these techniques. It will be a fun, learning and entertaining experience.

Fred Gerow’s Guitar Clinic begins Saturday February 4, at 2PM. Located at Off-Center Records 116 Bleecker St. Utica, NY, in the Loft. Sponsored by The Utica Music Alliance & Off-Center Records. Ph. 315-738-7651.
